Cassandra had been working at Marco Electrical and Flooring Enterprise for a few weeks and she was loving it. She did not miss wearing her drab janitor uniform and getting up really early to catch two jitneys to make it to work. She didn’t miss the manual labor or the lousy pay. Where she was now was a godsend and she couldn’t be more thankful for Marco giving her and kids a ride home that rainy day – the day they first met. She was really enjoying being able to use all the business skills she’d learned in school.
“Good morning beautiful,” Jerome complimented Cassandra as he walked into the front office. “Girl you are my sunshine on this rainy day,” he continued with his corny line.
Cassandra smiled at her co-worker. Since day one of them meeting, Jerome had been flirting with her – hard. He was like a big old teddy bear and handsome as all get out. But she wasn’t trying to cross that line of fraternization. She wasn’t trying to lose her job over some mess. “Good morning Teddy,” she greeted him, calling him by her nickname for him.
“When you gonna let me take you home to meet my mama?” Jerome sat down in one of the visitor’s chairs in front of her desk.
“Boy please. So one of your chicks come try fight me?” she teased while filling out an order form online for some electrical supplies.
“Cass you know you da only woman in my life, baby.” His voice was sexy like Barry White, it had Cassandra swooning every time.
“Hmmm, you ain’t fooling no one Jerome. I don’t want to have to be wondering when some chick gone come jack me for messing with her man. Some of these gals in Nassau crazy.”
He laughed. “Cassandra girl I’m gonna marry you someday and you won’t have to worry ‘bout no hoodrats cause no woman compares to you,” he confessed.
Marco cleared his throat entering the front office. Seeing Jerome all cozy chatting with Cassandra rubbed him the wrong way for reasons he didn’t understand. Annoyed, he looked at his watch. “Shouldn’t you be headed for that electrical work at Bank of the Bahamas?”
Jerome stood up. “Yeah, I was just getting ready to leave,” he told Marco. Then he looked back at Cassandra. “Catch you later baby,” he told her before leaving.
“See ya later Teddy!” Cassandra called over her shoulder not realizing Marco’s discomfort.
Marco fought the urge to smack the grin off of Jerome’s face. The hell is wrong with me? He shook his head trying to erase this foreign feeling that was coming over him. He walked further into the front office. “Good morning.” He went to the coffee machine and poured himself a cup. He had a couple hours before he needed to head out for a tiling job at a new home construction.
“Good morning!” Cassandra greeted looking up at him away from the computer screen. “I just scheduled for you to give an estimate for tiling tomorrow morning at ten-thirty.
